A top performance 'Down-Under' ...

Bundoora CampusA top performance 'Down-Under' following the introduction of Thor Helical in Australia at the Sydney Designbuild Exhibition.

An assessment of the R.M.I.T. University Bundoora Campus by Chris Drzewucki of Meinhardt Facades revealed a requirement for the installation of remedial brick ties.

The installation was being performed in stages and the initial product used was the a competitors 'spin-twisted' 8mm helical wall tie system. During the works program an area built with a 300mm cavity was discovered and consideration was given to trial the Thor Helical 9mm Drive Tie for this section
as it was felt Thor’s unique “precise pitch” manufacturing process would provide the means for accurate tracking across such an unusually wide cavity.

9mm x 450mm Thor Helical wall ties were impact driven through pilot-holes in the outer brick skin. across the cavity and into the remote leaf pilot-holes without any alignment failures .

Once the remaining 'spin-twisted' tie stocks had been used, the remaining installation utlised the accurately twisted Thor Helical Drive Ties.

John Geraghty of Thor Helical Australia explains that "...the improved second generation profile of the Thor Helical wall tie resulted in a dramatic reduction in wastage compared to the previous product. Time saved by not having to extract bent and deformed ties from the hard brick units also improved installation times and costs."
