The new AirTwist remedial wall tie system has been launched ahead of schedule. Designed by the inventor of the original helical wall tie and spiral bed-joint reinforcement, the revolutionary AirTwist remedial wall tie system tackles the ongoing safety concerns regarding practices that require the user of heavy drilling equipment to operate and control a power drill with only one hand.
The AirTwist Wall Tie and the AirTwist Wall Tie Driver are engineered to allow the installer to keep both hands on his hammer drilling machine at all times. The tool holds the reduced diameter shank of the remedial cavity wall tie, drives it through the near leaf - into the remote leaf - and countersinks the tie below the surface of the masonry. Added advantages of the AirTwist wall tie system include a substantial reduction in tooling costs for the contractor as the neat, compact and user friendly AirTwist setting tool replaces unweidly and expensive drill adapters that use telescopic drive-pin mechanisms. A smaller zinc plated version - the 'AirTwist Aircrete Fixing' - is available in 3", 4" and 5" lengths. The AirTwist fixing is a high speed frame fixing and batten fixing system used to anchor door frames and battens to Thermalite, to Celcon to Xella and to ther Aircrete blocks without any need to pre-drill or to plug and screw. The AirTwist fixing launched in the UK at the end of October 2008. |

Existing drive in remedial wall ties rely on the operator holding an SDS hammer drill in one hand and a cumbersome telescopic adapter in the other, as the whole set-up is aligned to a very small pilot hole in the wall. If the adapter malfunctions or the drill 'snatches' during the course of the tie driving operation, the operator is at serious risk of ligament damage to wrist or shoulder.
