Thor Helical Piles

Thor Helical piles comprise leading tubular sockets that are simultaneously profiled and twisted to provide a screw pile with precise pitch accuracy along the full length of the helix. Such helical pitch accuracy cannot be achieved by welding spiral fights to a central member.

Helical Pile InstallationThe constant helix initiates spiral rotation of the helical socket and its smooth passage of penetration into the ground as axial impact forces are applied to the leading pile section. The helix interlocks with the ground, into which cones of stress is imparted in the direction of imposed load, to resist applied compressive or tensile forces.

Circular pile extensions serve to increase the length of the ground anchor and to provide an anti-heave slip plane within shallow desiccated layers.

First used in 1996, under the guidance of the B.R.E., the Thor Helical twisted piles are currently being re-engineered. The increased load capacity of the new helical piles will offer rapid installation speeds with lightweight plant and will alleviate significant site disturbance and associated costs.  Leading Engineering groups or large piling organisations are requested to express an interest in becomming commercial investing partners with a view to the exploration and exploitation of this exciting opportunity.
